One of my favorite things about teaching at SoulCycle is how we use music as motivation. We never repeat a playlist, which means each class is custom curated for that ride and that ride only. And while it took some getting used to at first, now I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way, because I use my music to tell a story, express how I’m feeling that day, and share my outlook on the world. And we ride to the BEAT, which just makes sense to me as a “dancer first.” When the whole room is riding together in perfect synchronicity, it’s quite a kick-ass feeling.
Today I thought it would be fun to share some of my current jams with you. Some of them are old, some are new, but all are FUN and remind me of summer and all things light and joyful. Download what moves you and use them as your reminders to #danceeverydamnday! Have fun and let me know what you like, and if you have a great song to share, don’t be shy! Email me at email@example.com and hook me up!
1. “Hot Summer”– Lovin’ Spoonful vs. DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (Mashup)
I love this mashup. Just nostalgia from all angles here.
2. “Sailing” cover by Avant
I mean, you can’t go wrong with the Christopher Cross version, but Avant’s vocals are so smooth in this rendition and I like that he doesn’t deviate much from the original. I use this to stretch at the end of class. It’s so refreshing.
3. “Fun” by Pitbull feat. Chris Brown
A hint of tropical flair in the chorus, and just a great driving-with-the-top-down jam.
4. “Dreams” by theSHIFT
My favorite song from their debut EP, 7th Direction, I listen to it on repeat. Makes you wanna get up and go after your DREEEEEAMS! Plus, #facemeltingguitarsolos.
5. “Five More Hours” by Chris Brown feat. Deorro
Okay I know. Another Chris Brown song. But it’s just so much, as Pitbull put it, FUN. It makes me want a fizzy drink and outdoor boat party or something. Okay fine, I’ll just be in my back yard by myself, but whatever. 🙂
6. “Geronimo” (Ayesse Edit) by Sheppard vs Benny Benassi
Epic. Dance it OUT.
7. “Somebody” by Natalie LaRose featuring Jeremih.
This song made the list because it’s my daughter’s JAM right now and we always play it together in the car. If you are following me on Instagram, you’ve seen the video. Cuteness. If not, here it is.
I could go on and on and on. But maybe you should just come to class instead. 🙂
Keep it light, keep it fun til next time!
